Our Lady of Altötting (copy)
In the Klagenfurt Cathedral, Lidmanskygasse 14, 9020 Klagenfurt am Woerthersee
The son of the earl, who built the copy of the Holy House of Loreto just outside of Klagenfurt on the Maria Loretto Peninsula, had this funeral chapel built for his family in the cathedral in 1660/61. It was dedicated to St. Francis Xavier.
In the 20th century, the Francis Xavier statue was replaced by the Black Madonna of Altötting – a fitting move considering the devotion the earl’s father had to the Black Madonna of Loreto.
